About Me

Welcome to Van’s Garden

Hey there! I’m Van Nguyen, your not-so-native Las Vegas gardener who decided this desert was looking a little too… beige. Since moving here in 2015, I’ve been on a mission to green up the Mojave, one tomato, basil sprig, and surprise watermelon at a time.

I wasn’t born with a shovel in my hand, but I was born with a love of learning (and maybe a little “know-it-all” energy. I did come from a corporate teaching background, after all). So naturally, I went down the rabbit hole of gardening, desert soil science, feng shui, edible landscapes, and the magic of manifestation. Why? Because I truly believe you can turn your backyard (or balcony!) into a thriving oasis even in zone 9b with caliche soil and 115°F summers.

Gardening is My Favorite Life Metaphor

Gardening isn’t just about growing food. It’s about patience. Persistence. Adaptation. Hope. Dirty hands and small wins. It’s problem-solving with plants. It’s also one of the few hobbies that:

  • Stimulates your brain
  • Nourishes your body
  • Beautifies your space
  • And occasionally impresses the neighbors

Let’s be honest, in a world of rising food prices, AI confusion, unstable politics, and way too many emails, growing your own food feels like a tiny rebellion. It’s self-sufficiency. It’s therapy. It’s art. And it’s something that, no matter what’s in your bank account, you can do.

Why I Started This Site

If you’ve ever stared at your yard thinking, “There’s no way anything can grow here,” you’re not alone. That was me. But then I learned how to work with the desert, not against it and now I want to help you do the same.

Whether you’re here for:

  • Practical advice on what grows well in Vegas
  • Feng shui tips for garden energy
  • A community of like-minded plant nerds
  • Or just aesthetic inspiration for your next “look what I grew!” post

You’re in the right place.

Let’s Manifest a Better World… Starting with Food

Call me idealistic, but I believe in a future where neighbors share harvests, local food is abundant, and we all have a little more peace because our hands are in the soil. Utopian? Maybe. But hey, I’ve manifested weirder things. (Like possibly refilling Lake Mead… don’t ask. That’s a story for another platform.)

So let’s start small: grow something delicious, take a cute pic, and maybe start a garden revolution.
